RULES

Theme: Photographic “Time for playing - Playmobil”.

Do you remember the joy of creating worlds from imagination — where a few figures and a touch of light could turn a toy into a story? This December, we invite photographers, artists, and dreamers of all ages to take part in “Time for playing - Playmobil,” a photography exhibition celebrating creativity, nostalgia, and the artistry of miniature worlds.

Playmobil was more than just a toy for many of us — it was a gateway to storytelling, design, and visual thinking. Through this open call, we aim to explore how photography can transform these small figures into protagonists of vast and imaginative narratives. The exhibition will highlight the intersection between model-making, composition, and photographic skill, revealing how the lens can give life, emotion, and meaning to the miniature.

Throughout history, several renowned photographers have used models and miniatures to expand the limits of visual storytelling. Laurie Simmons explored domestic life through staged dollhouse scenes. David Levinthal reimagined history and pop culture through toy soldiers and figures. Thomas Demand built entire architectural models to photograph them as uncanny realities. Their work reminds us that scale is only a question of perspective — and creativity has no limits.

We encourage participants to submit photographs that capture the essence of Playmobil as a symbol of imagination and play, reinterpreted through their own artistic vision. Whether humorous, cinematic, nostalgic, or surreal, each image should tell a story that bridges childhood wonder with photographic craftsmanship.
